Acupuncture for Allergies and Allergic Sensitivities

allergic sensitivity

Acupuncture for allergies and allergic sensitivities: The energetic definition of an allergy or allergic sensitivity is any internal or external interference that disrupts the flow of qi and causes imbalances and blockages in meridian flow. Any substance that we inhale, ingest or contact can be considered an external influence. Because each meridian influences a certain organ, any deficiency or blockage of meridian flow in a particular meridian will have a subsequent reaction in the corresponding organ. Sensitivities not only affect meridian flow, but they can also disrupt organ, brain function, spinal and cranial integrity, and proper immune response.

An example of an allergy or allergic sensitivity would be getting a headache on the side of the head following the consumption of corn. In this case, corn is causing a disruption of the flow of qi in the gall bladder meridian. This meridian runs along the side of the head, so pain can occur here. Wheat, for instance, may cause intestinal cramping and diarrhea, because it is weakening the small or large intestine meridian. The meridian mismatch or imbalance is causing the symptoms.

Furthermore, if one is sensitive to a specific food, we must also determine if the person is also sensitive to some of the properties within that food. For example, milk is loaded with calcium. If one has become sensitive to calcium, the body would have to struggle to metabolize it. A possible calcium deficiency might occur. Symptoms could also include muscle pain and progressive bone degeneration. A sensitivity to Magnesium may cause a lack of this vital nutrient to be properly absorbed, leading to a magnesium deficiency causing muscle tightness, pain and brain health. Magnesium may also cause an immune reaction upon ingestion. Any mineral, herb, food, vitamin can be a potential meridian sensitivity mismatch. Not only can a deficiency occur in that substance, but a possible weakening of the entire immune system as well. When the body is reacting to basic nutrients and specific foods, few of these nutrients are being metabolized. General health and vitality are depleted, and illness can occur.

Environmental sensitivities, such as pollens and dust, can also affect meridian flow, weakening the lung meridian and causing sinusitis, asthma, and breathing difficulties to occur.
